On July 4, 2016 the Ministry of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus will issue the souvenir sheet “St. Sophia Cathedral in Polotsk”. Artist: Tatyana Dolskaya. Design: Yelena Medved. Printing: offset. Colour: multicoloured. Paper: chalk-surfaced, gummed. Perforation: comb 13: 131/2. Size of the stamp in the souvenir sheet: 52x37 mm. Size of the souvenir sheet: 84x82 mm. While printing the souvenir sheet they used the technology of relief stamping and thermal stamping by metalized foil of golden colour. Print quantity: 20.000 souvenir sheets. The souvenir sheet was printed at the Republican Unitary Enterprise “Bobruisk Integrated Printing House named after A. T. Nepogodin”. St. Sophia Cathedral is situated in the town of Polotsk. It was originally built between 1030 and 1060. In 1710 it was demolished and in the middle of the 18th century it was rebuilt in the Vilnius baroque style. Currently the cathedral is a part of the Polotsk National Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve. The cathedral is a concert hall and the Museum of the History of Architecture of St. Sophia Cathedral. The exposition of the museum includes fragments of the masonry and frescoes of the 11th century as well as almost completely preserved ancient foundation. The concert hall annually hosts the International Festival of Ancient and Contemporary Chamber Music (in April), and the International Organ Music Festival "Bells of Sophia" (in November). Every Sunday there are concerts of organ music. The project was prepared with the assistance of the Polotsk National Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve. Face value “P” is equal to the air-mail tariff of a letter up to 20 gram abroad. |
