![]() | Eagles are birds of prey of the family Accipitridaey. The world fauna includes about four dozen of their species. Lifespan of eagles is one of the longest among birds. Big eagles often live up to 40-50 years. In search of prey they soar for hours at a great height. At the right moment they rapidly go down, stretch their legs forward and grab the victim, stunning it with the beak. Having great strength eagles often attack animals much heavier than themselves: foxes, wolves, deer, gazelles and antelopes. Despite of their strength eagles are very vulnerable. Hunger is dangerous for them. With ploughing up of new areas of virgin land wild animals disappear and the usual food is not enough for eagles. Besides they often die on power lines. The golden eagle and steppe eagle depicted on the stamps are included in the national Red Data Books of a number of countries, including the Red Book of Belarus (golden eagle) and the Red Book of Azerbaijan (golden eagle and steppe eagle). |
