Biotopes of Belarus. Bogs

On May 14, 2014 the Ministry of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus will issue the souvenir sheet “Biotopes of Belarus. Bogs”.
Designer: Alexander Mityanin. Printing: offset. Colour: multicoloured. Paper: chalk-surfaced, gummed. Perforation frame: stamp No.1022 — 14x141/4, stamp No.1023 — 141/4x14. There are 2 stamps in the souvenir sheet. Size of the stamps: No.1022 — 40x28 mm, No.1023 — 28x40 mm. Face value of each stamp: P. Size of the souvenir sheet: 100x80 mm. Print quantity: 20.000 souvenir sheets.
The souvenir sheet was printed at the Republican Unitary Enterprise “Bobruisk Integrated Printing House named after A. T.  Nepogodin”.
Letter “P” is equal to the air-mail tariff of a letter up to 20 gram abroad.
 
A biotope is an area of uniform environmental conditions providing living space for a specific assemblage of plants and animals. Presented on the souvenir sheet is a raised bog biotope. A convexly raised surface is a characteristic of a raised bog. The top layer of a raised bog has no connection with the mineral soil, so it is exclusively moistened by rainwater. In Belarus raised bogs are most common in Vitebsk region. They are the main sources of cranberries.
