On October 16, 2009 the Ministry of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus will issue the stamp “150th anniversary of the first telegraph line Minsk-Bobruisk”.
Designer: Igor Buben. Printing: offset. Colour: full colour. Paper: chalk-surfaced, gummed. Perforation: comb 131/2: 133/4. Size of the stamp: 37x26 mm. Sheet composition: 7 stamps and 2 coupons. Size of the sheet: 137x106 mm. Print quantity of the stamp: 45.000.
There are elements of protection on the stamps.
Historical reference: On December 18, 1859 the newspaper “Gubernskiye vedomosti” reported that the first telegraph stations in Minsk and Bobruisk started to work on November 27, 1859. So 150 years ago the development of telegraph communication in Belarus began.
At present Minsk telegraph is the main national telegraphic communication centre. National telecommunication operator RUE “Beltelecom” does some services based on telegraphic communication in Belarus.
Communication in any place, at any time, without obstacles began from the simple telegraph, and in Belarus — from the telegraph line between Minsk and Bobruisk.
