200th Birth Anniversary of Hans Christian Andersen

On May 20, 2005 Belarus Post will issue a souvenir sheet dedicated to the 200th birth anniversary of Hans Christian Andersen.

Designer: Igor Gordiyonok. Printing: offset. Colour: full colour (5 colours). Paper: chalk surfaced. Perforation: frame 13¼: 13½. Size of the stamp: 30x40 mm. Size of the souvenir sheet: 120x80 mm. Print quantity: 25.000.

There are elements of protection on the stamp.

Historical reference. Hans Christian Andersen (02.04.1805, Odense — 04.08.1875, Copenhagen) is a Danish writer. His father was a poor shoemaker. Andersen wrote plays since his childhood. In 1926-27 some of his poems were published. It was in his early works when the grains of his future tales could be seen. 1835-37 Andersen’s 3 books “Fairy Tales, Told for Children” saw publication with his well known tales “The Princess and the Pea”, “The Little Mermaid”, “The Emperor’s New Suit” and others. “The Brave Tin Soldier”, “The Ugly Duckling”, “The Snow Queen” are Andersen’s best tales. He remained in world’s literature as a genius tale-teller who combined romance and realism, fantasy and humour, irony and satire. His weapon of laughter attacked egoism and self-interest, flattery and complacency.
