On January 17, 2020 the Ministry of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus will issue the postage stamp “Year of the Rat” of the series “Oriental calendar”. Artist: Victor Chaichuk. Design: Yauheniya Biadonik. Print process: offset. Colour: multicoloured. Paper: chalk-surfaced, gummed. Perforations: comb 12. Stamp size: 28x35 mm. Sheet composition: 6 (3x2) stamps. Sheet size: 103x90 mm. The technology of thermal stamping by metalized foil of golden colour was used on the stamp and stamp margins. Print quantity: 48.000 stamps. Printer: Republican Unitary Enterprise “Bobruisk Integrated Printing House named after A. T. Nepogodin”. Letter “P” is equal to the air-mail tariff of a letter up to 20 gram abroad. |

The Oriental (Chinese) calendar is based on a 12-year lunar cycle, in which each year passes under the sign of one animal. It is believed that the sign of the zodiac animal affects the nature of each person. Signs of the Chinese horoscope are: Rat, Bull, Tiger, Rabbit (Cat), Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. The New Year according to the Oriental calendar falls on different dates between 21 January and 20 February. 2020, the Year of the White Metal Rat, opens the twelve-year cycle of the Oriental calendar. It will begin on January 25, 2020 and will last until February 11, 2021. The project was prepared in cooperation with the Republican Institute of Confucius China Studies of the Belarusian State University. |
