Beginning Nos. 498 and 499. Artist: Alexander Mityanin. Design: Marina Vitkovskaya. Print process: offset. Colour: multicoloured. Paper: chalk-surfaced, gummed. Perforations:comb 131/2: 13.Stamps size: 37x26 mm. Sheets composition: 5 stamps & 1 coupon. Sheets size: 132x75 mm. Print quantity: 75.000 stamps each. Printer: Republican Unitary Enterprise “Bobruisk Integrated Printing House named after A. T. Nepogodin”. Face value A is equal to the tariff of a letter up to 20 gram within Belarus. Face value M is equal to the air-mail tariff of a postcard abroad. Face value H is equal to the surface tariff of a letter up to 20 gram abroad. |

Reptiles are represented in Belarus by 7 species: one species of turtles (Pond turtle), three species of snakes (Smooth snake, Grass snake and Common European adder) and 3 species of lizards (Viviparous lizard, Sand lizard and Slow Worm). The Viviparous lizard is the second most common species of reptiles after the Sand lizard. It has a special egg production: it does not lay eggs in the ground, but carries them inside its body. The Sand lizard is the most popular type of reptiles in the republic. Its movements are quick, sharp and impulsive. The Slow Worm is the only representative of legless lizards in Belarus. In many parts of the republic a Slow Worm is confused with a poisonous Smooth snake and it is mercilessly destroyed. The lizard has the ability to shed its tail as a defense mechanism. |
