Minsk is the capital of Belarus, the largest transport node and the political, economic, cultural and scientific centre of the country. It has the honorary title "Hero City".

For the first time Minsk was mentioned as a town of the Principality of Polotsk in 1067 in the ancient chronicles of the Eastern Slavs: “Rus” and “The Primary Chronicle”. The chronicles narrate about the defeat of the town during the military campaign of the 3 princes of Kiev, Yaroslaviches, against the Prince of Polotsk Vseslav and about the battle on the river Nemiga between the armies of Kiev and Polotsk, which took place on March 3, 1067.

The stamp of the souvenir sheet is based on the miniature from the Radzivill Chronicle “Battle on the Nemiga River”.

The postmark is based on the seal of the first Prince of Minsk Gleb Vseslavich.

The project was prepared on the materials of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
