150th Birth Anniversary of Leon Bakst

On May 11, 2016 the Ministry of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus will issue the souvenir sheet “150th birth anniversary of Leon Bakst”.

 

Artist: Yana Surmachevskaya. Design: Yelena Medved. Printing: offset. Colour: multicoloured. Paper: chalk-surfaced, gummed. Perforation: comb 13^1/2: 13. Size of the stamp in the souvenir sheet: 74x52 mm. Size of the souvenir sheet: 89x70 mm. Print quantity: 25.000 souvenir sheets.

 

The souvenir sheet was printed at the Republican Unitary Enterprise “Bobruisk Integrated Printing House named after A. T.  Nepogodin”.

 

Leon Bakst (born as Lev Rosenberg 27.01.1866 in Grodno — died 28.12.1924) was a painter, set designer, book illustrator, and master of easel painting and theater drawing. He was one of the founders of the legendary association "World of Art" and the same named magazine. He became world famous due to his cooperation with the ballet impresario Sergei Diaghilev who invited Bakst to make the set design for the series of performances named "Russian Seasons" in Paris — "Cleopatra" (1909), "Scheherazade" and "Firebird" (1910), "Narcissus" (1911 ), "Daphnis and Chloe" (1912).

The 150th birth anniversary of Leon Bakst is included in the UNESCO list of memorable dates.
